Johannes Hahn intends to review format of Turkey-EU cooperation

Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, announced they will develop the Turkey-EU cooperation in new standards on the background of the upcoming political changes in the county following the constitutional referendum, Deutsche Welle reports. Hahn stressed the current conditions of the relations cannot continue for long.

He mentioned is Turkey fulfils all preconditions, then the negotiations over membership will be in the agenda. Hahn said in terms of democracy in Turkey, the constitutional changes are a dangerous step back.

Regarding Turkey’s re-introduction of death penalty, the Commissioner said in such case the EU-Turkey relations might become tense.
