Changes in Armenia’s aviation market to be for benefit of citizens and tourism – PM

During today’s Cabinet meeting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced that the largest European airline – Ryanair, has entered into the Armenian aviation market.

“It turns out that people can buy tickets en route Yerevan-Rome for 30-35 Euros. I was surprised to see that tickets were already being sold yesterday”, the PM said.

Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan said the Irish Ryanair will carry out flights at four destinations. “The price policy is based on offering affordable and available prices as much as possible”, he said.

As for the food and the luggage, the deputy PM said the remaining services are available with additional payments. “In general, the entry of such airlines greatly affects both the incoming and outgoing tourism”, Avinyan noted.

Pashinyan added that heated discussions were held in the government on the matter. “We have adopted a principle on eliminating the air fee for the destinations which were not served in the past one year, and this relates to all airlines without any exception. This change will bring serious progress in the aviation market. There is no doubt that these changes will be for the benefit of the citizens and the tourism”, he said, adding that they must be consistent with the implementation of the decisions.
