Public intolerance is needed against corruption, says Armenian President
President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian, who is in London on a working visit to attend the first EBRD Eastern Partnership Investment Summit, met with Christian Danielsson, Director-General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission.
The officials exchanged views on the Armenia-EU partnership and Armenia’s participation to the EU’s various projects.
President Sarkissian proposed to pay greater attention to the projects directed to the future, stating that Armenia’s future are innovations and latest technologies, such as artificial intelligence, math modelling and management of big information. In this context he introduced the presidential initiative ATOM (Advanced Tomorrow) aimed at the development of science and technologies. He stated that this initiative provides great opportunities for cooperation.
The President said great changes are taking place in Armenia and highlighted the development of democracy, rule of law and civil society as guarantees for progress. Talking about the fight against corruption the Armenian President first of all emphasized the need of changing public psychology and thinking towards such phenomena, forming new culture and the public intolerance. He said in order the fight against corruption to be effective, it is necessary to form a society that will reject corruption and will have a high resistance against such phenomena.
