Aghasi Yenokyan: Let’s Suppose Sefilian is Released—what’s Next?

“When Lavrov and Aliyev in Baku touched upon the point that they’re close to the issue settlement more than ever, not a single voice was heard from Armenia, and discussions with weren’t held Armenia, i.e. they had their imaginations in which situation Armenia will appear, so that they’d be able to implement their plan. By these activities Armenia appeared in a rather envious situation, Serzh Sargsyan has sharply weakened and probably he won’t be ever able to confront pressures by Lavrov and Aliyev.

In this tense situation Serzh Sargsyan headed for Artsakh, i.e. this has a component of Artsakh. Thus, in this step I observe external vector as well,” Aghasi Yenokyan, Director of the Armenian Center for Political and International Studies, told at today’s discussion, noticing, that this step has a rather serious internal component as well,

“The fact that Armenia’s political field was desolated, that no oppositional political power was left in Armenia, seems to be obvious to everyone. And if you don’t have the possibility to changes through constitution, the anti-constitutional, terrorist activities are left, and the absurd approach that people may reflect to their calls.”

He noted that up to now from the ruling elite only the Catholicos has reflected to the situation, “There was no reflection of the president, the PM, very few of political parties gave their assessments to the existent situation. This also speaks of the fact that today we don’t have a political field.”

Touching upon the claims of armed grouping, he stated that they’re not political, “The claim to free Jirair Sefilian is an absurd claim. Let’s suppose, Sefilian is released, what will happen next? They will free the hostages, then Sefilian will be again detained, i.e. I don’t observe any logic here. having nothing to say connected with two persons [release of Sefilian, and resigning of Serzh sargsyan-R.M.] they put forward questions.”
