Against the regime and fake opposition

Yesterday “Republic,” “Civil contract” and “Bright Armenia” signed a memorandum on joint activity, one of the main provisions of which is that the three powers will participate with the alliance at the forthcoming parliamentary elections and of the Council of Elders of Yerevan.

One of the major intrigues of the formation of this alliance was that they pretended to unite the so-called pro-Western powers with clear foreign policy position, which will be radically different from the position and orientation of the incumbent authorities. In the memorandum signed yesterday, however, that clear orientation lacks.

The parties simply recorded that they see Armenia as a European state, as they mentioned “with the combination of best national peculiarities and interests,” i.e. at least on memorandum level pro-Western orientation of these political parties isn’t expressed. By recording their view on a European state, they have also recorded what the authorities are touching upon on a statement level—RPA, ARF, PAP and others.

At large, it means covering up the main issue that Armenia faces—foreign policy orientation, which means considering approximately like the authorities or non-authoritative powers in the Russian orbit, that Armenia’s issues may be solved by only staying in Eurasian dimension.

This means, that on the basis of this union in a wider sense lies “neither-nor” position of the “Civil contract,” which generally is the “both-and” of the authorities with the opposite manifestation. This also means, that Aram Sarsyan’s more clear anti-Eurasian position is less in the grounding of the alliance.

Regarding Edmon Marukyan, repeatedly touching upon integration, in principal issues like security system, gave more preference to CSTO, which, at large, is another manifestation of “neither-nor,” which leads to proceeding with Eurasianism.

Of course, this is the first impression, and in near future by already pre-election messages this alliance will more clarify its position. In all cases formation of an opposition alliance should be considered positive in the context of the monopoly of the authorities, and what is more crucial, of the functioning and fake opposition being shaped. By the way, one of the top missions of this alliance will be fight against fake opposition, through which, in their turn, the authorities will fight to atomize votes of the opposition electorate.
