I exclude violent post-election developments in Armenia, which is important: Zatulin
“Internal instability, firstly, comes from the country’s interests, moreover, Armenia, which has unresolved conflict, which, in its turn should pass on commonsense to the political powers,” Konstantin Zatulin, first deputy chairman of the committee of the State Duma for the CIS and Eurasian integration, told 168.am, reflecting to the parliamentary elections held in Armenia on April 2.
He positively assessed the circumstance, that Armenia’s new, innovation Electoral Code justified itself, under which election violations were random during the voting. According to Zatulin there were several reports on violations, however, they were few and yet unclarified, which basically didn’t have an effect on election results. According to him this reaches possibility of post-election force majeure developments, as the society has made its choice in favor of 4 political powers.
“Judging from the current state of affairs, post-election statements of all political powers, I exclude violent post-election developments in Armenia, which is a rather positive circumstance, as domestic policy instability, firstly, isn’t in line with interests of any country, moreover, Armenia, which has unresolved conflict, which, in its turn, should pass on political commonsense to the political powers,” Konstantin Zatulin said.
This doesn’t anticipate a breakthrough in internal and external life on account of the list of powers, which will appear in the parliament. Moreover, according to him, RPA recorded stabile victory, and there isn’t even necessity to make a coalition, although Zatulin considers RPA will make a coalition with ARF and Armenia will continue developing in a stabile direction.
Reflecting to foreign policy and Armenia-Russia relations, Zatulin qualified bilateral relations as “high-level” in all fields.
“Our relations are very high both in all fields of bilateral cooperation and in regional issues. A few days ago I also stated in Yerevan that in our relations Armenia is bothered with Russia’s position only in NK conflict peaceful settlement. After April sharpening Russia attempted to eliminate doubts of the Armenian side, strengthening security system with Armenia within CSTO,” Zatulin said, assuring that Armenia is Russia’s most trusted partner in the region, for which Russia took those steps.
In his words Russia’s position in NK conflict settlement didn’t’ change, which Russian FM Sergey Lavrov has repeatedly confirmed in his speeches, although various speculations are heard on mediation efforts.
“Russia continues working with its Western partners, although opinions are heard that Russia attempts to develop separate plans in settlement. Russia simply attempts to find edges for negotiation resumption by using its peculiar ties with both countries,” Zatulin said.
