History of Armenian Genocide is my history too: Mayor of Paris
The Municipality of Paris on April 24 hosted the Armenian community representatives to commemorate the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Nouvelles d’Armenie reported. The event was attended by Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, French legislators, Armenia’s Ambassador to France Vigen Chitechyan, Primate of the French Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Vahan Hovhannisyan and others.
“The history of this genocide is my history too since it is the history of humanity”, the Mayor of Paris said. She thanked the Armenian community representatives for adhering to humanitarian values, not forgetting their roots, at the same time by being integrated and proving that life is always stronger. Anne Hidalgo reafrmed that fight is not over.
“If we don’t move the history on the way of truth, we can repeat it. If we deny the history, it can be repeated itself,” she said, stating that by remembering the truth, it is necessary to concentrate on the present, one of the vivid examples of which is the strong ties between the capitals of France and Armenia.
The Paris Mayor reafrmed her commitment to assist creating an Armenian center in Paris. According to her, the fact that on April 24 many people in the world commemorate the Armenian Genocide shows that the desire to eliminate Armenians failed.
Armenia’s Ambassador to France Vigen Chitechyan, Co-Chairmen of the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations of France Murad Papazian and Ara Toranian delivered remarks at the event.
