Erdogan to return as chairman of Turkey’s ruling party

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will once again lead the Justice and Development party – the country’s ruling party, Vice PM Numan Kurtulmuş said, according to Anadolu agency.

Turkey’s Vice-PM said the party will convene a council on May 2, where Erdogan will join the party’s ranks. Later on May 21, Justice and Development will convene an extraordinary congress where the President will be re-elected as Chairman.

The previous constitution of the country prohibited any party afliation for the president, however under the recent constitutional changes the ban is lifted.
