This movie is not only about the past: ‘The Promise’ screened in Vilnius

The Armenian Embassy organized the special screening of ‘The Promise’ movie in “Pasaka” cinema of Vilnius on May 25, with participation of Ambassadors accredited in Lithuania, numerous diplomats, representatives of legislative and executive authorities, journalists, cultural figures, Armenian community representatives.

Before the screening of the movie, Armenia’s Ambassador to Lithuania Tigran Mkrtchyan said a movie dedicated to the Armenian Genocide was shot for the first time in Hollywood since the previous attempts didn’t succeed due to pressures of the Turkish authorities. According to the Ambassador, ‘however this movie is not only about the past’.

“It also relates to our present. It is about resisting evil, about brotherly and unconditional love”, the Ambassador said, adding that the “history proved that despite Hitler’s remark ‘Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?’, we can state that the entire world today remembers it.”

The remembrance and recognition of the Genocide are pushed through education. And the art, including cinematography play a significant role on raising recognition. Reception was held after the screening of the movie.
