US warns citizens against travel to Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh
The US Department of State has issued an alert warning its citizens against travelling to Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) amid the reported tensions along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the high risks of contracting the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for Armenia due to COVID-19, indicating a very high level of the infection in the country. The Department finds that the effective restrictions affect US citizens’ entry into Armenia.
Also, the regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh are reported to be high-risk zones of military instability.
“Casualties continue to occur following intensive fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that occurred in the fall 2020. The US government is unable to provide emergency services to US citizens in and around Nagorno-Karabakh as access is restricted,” reads the official statement.
