Eiffel Tower goes dark at midnight in solidarity with London

Lights on the Eiffel Tower have been switched off in solidarity with Britain after Wednesday’s terror attack in central London, which left at least five people dead, the Daily Mail reports.

Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, made the announcement earlier today as she stressed her “solidarity” to her London counterpart Sadiq Khan.

She said: “Paris and London have close links of friendship, which have never ceased to grow over the last few decades.”

The politician admitted the two European capitals “share the same love of freedom and a commitment to democracy.”

She added: “These are two tolerant and cosmopolitan cities open to the world that draw their strength from their diversity.”

Three French schoolchildren are among those injured in the terror attack in Westminster on Wednesday afternoon.

French prime minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, tweeted: “Solidarity with our British friends struck terribly, full support to the injured French pupils, their families and their classmates.”

Earlier today, five people were killed and 40 have been injured after a major terror attack in the heart of London today.

A car ploughed through a crowd of people on Westminster Bridge shortly after 2.30pm this afternoon, killing at least two.

The car, a grey Hyundai i40, then continued down towards Parliament before colliding into a gate.

The attacker then attempted to storm into Parliament before being confronted by a police officer, named this evening as Keith Palmer.
