US Senators request investigation into Trump’s dealings in Azerbaijan
The ranking Democratic members of the US Senate’s Foreign Relations, Banking, and Judiciary committees have written a joint letter to several Trump Administration officials asking them to address the possibility that the Trump Organization violated several laws in its dealings in Azerbaijan, The New Yorker reported.
The letter, by Senators Sherrod Brown, of Ohio, Dianne Feinstein, of California, and Ben Cardin, of Maryland, was sent to the Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, the Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, and the F.B.I. director, James Comey.
The article says Trump’s company worked with Anar and Elton Mammedov, family members of the transportation minister. Elton Mammedov is also a member of parliament. According to journalists, this fact proves that Trump’s company violated American laws.
The U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act makes it a crime for American companies to provide bene᪅t to foreign government officials in hopes of profiting from their power.
