Ara Ghazaryan: “This can’t happen in a member state of the Council of Europe”
“First of all, this is very dangerous” — this is the first response of international law expert, attorney Ara Ghazaryan to the statement that Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan made via his Facebook page, stating that the entrances to and exits from all courts of the Republic of Armenia must be blocked starting from 08:30 tomorrow morning and that he will give a speech live at 12:00.
Ara Ghazaryan considers such anti-constitutional calls in a member state of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe dangerous.
“Blocking entrances to and exits from court buildings — I don’t remember such a case in history at all. This can’t happen in a member state of the Council of Europe,” the expert told 168.am.
“First of all, the Prime Minister made a very dangerous statement. Second of all, it is a violation of constitutional law, and I would say, the main law, and a violation of the principle of separation of powers. The independence of the judicial power is at risk, well…it was already at risk,” the expert said.
What should we expect tomorrow morning? In regard to the expected protests and possible rebellion, the expert presented some versions and stated the following: “Nobody can say what the Prime Minister was thinking when he made his statement. We’ll see tomorrow.”
