Yesenin was kind and conscientious. At those time homeless children were quite many, and he never ignored any of them—he was stopping them, asking where did they come from, how they lived, and was giving money. At those moments he was remembering his childhood. Once, noticing homeless boys, Yesenin said: “Look Shahane, you can see Pushkin, Lermontov, and me there.”
Very little is known of Michelangelo Antonioni’s visit, famous Italian film director, to Armenia in 1976. Reasons are quite numerous. Firstly, the visit was short, then it didn’t serve its purpose-the program remained unaccomplished, and finally, according to some sources, Antonioni left Armenia not with high mood and impressions.
It’s a big noise, quite a big one, as, obviously, old and bad traditions still continue—Armenia’s security service isn’t separated from the Soviet KGB system, and, currently—from Russian special service as well.
“The event is unique in the South Caucasus, until now bringing 5 Nobel laureates in one place at the same period wasn’t recorded in the region. Main purpose of holding “Nobel days in Yerevan” is inviting world leaders in the field of science, who will try to motivate Armenia’s youth, and show how palpable is science nowadays.”
Tatyana Valovaya, Minister for Development and Integration of Microeconomics of Eurasian Economic Commission, announced on February 9, that charging of 20% VAT from physical persons, importing vehicles to Armenia from EEU member countries by Armenia’s authorities, contradicts legal-contractual framework of the Union
At its extraordinary session held the day before, RA National Assembly passed a bill on amendments in Governmental structure, under which Ministry of Territorial Administration was separated from Ministry of Emergency Situations for allocating it to Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), and appointing David Lokyan as a Minister.
Despite exchange rate of Armenian currency (AMD) was comparatively stable throughout 2015, RA citizens were rather cautious during the year, and preference was given to foreign currency in keeping savings. Data by Central Bank of Armenia, particularly, on level of dollarization, are a proof to that.
Finally, I am optimistic about this new phase of EU-Armenia relations, as negotiations will not start from scratch. Quite the opposite, they will work on what has already been built and, therefore, we should be able to expect concrete results in a reasonable period of time.
Let’s look at it differently. Let’s imagine there is no base. What would be the dangers? Given our relations with Turkey…. Our relations are overshadowed by historical issues, the unresolved conflict around Nagorno-Karabakh. Ours is not a region where there are idyllic relations and everyone is always glad to see their neighbors and welcomes everyone …
Under these circumstances, my suggestion to the Armenian-American community is to refrain from making an early commitment to any candidate. The decision as to whom to support can be made later as the presidential race gets tighter and the candidates get more desperate for votes!
