Yes, we’re Ready for a Compromise: David Babayan

If Germany, as an OSCE Co-Chair will be able to take a crucial step towards installation of investigative mechanisms, it’ll be e great investment. Such opinion was expressed by David Babayan, press speaker of NKR president, touching upon the visit of Frank-Walter Steinmeier, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, to the South Caucasus.

“Today the meeting of the president of Artsakh and Steinmeier was held in Yerevan and different issues have been discussed towards NK conflict settlement. Surely, main stress was on developing of mechanisms, maintenance of peace. Time will show whether it’ll succeed or not, however, there is no any other variant—conflict settlement process should centralize on development and installation of these very mechanisms. It’ll be impossible to settle the conflict without it. For years this direction has been ignored, that’s why we face various difficulties, peak of which may be considered the April four-day war. Everything should be done to develop these mechanisms, here, Germany, as a Co-Chair, if it succeeds to take the crucial step, it’ll be a great investment to that end,” he said.

To the question how realistic is that Germany will succeed to record any progress regarding installation of those mechanisms, on account of the fact, that Ilham Aliyev has already withdrawn from agreements, reached in Vienna, D.Babayan replied, “But here OSCE should initiate corresponding steps, and this is important both for the conflict settlement and maintenance of peace in the region. Finally, it’s also important for the rating of these organizations, that Azerbaijan shouldn’t fail these collective activities and efforts due to it hysterical behavior,” D.Babayan said.

Note, yesterday Steinmeier stated that it’s clear for OSCE that the “status quo” will be impossible to maintain in other way, and both sides should go to a compromise. Reflecting to this, D.Babayan stated, that the most important is, that a compromise was recorded, and unilateral compromise is impossible, “Yes, we’re ready for a compromise, however, it should be bilateral, secondly, compromises should be equal, otherwise, it’ll be impossible, as we have an unpredictable terror totalitarian state like Azerbaijan.”
