12% of respondents said the work of the Cabinet is negative

Armenia’s population views Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan’s Cabinet’s work as positive, despite an overall discontent over the country’s situation, Valery Fyodorov, CEO of the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion Research told reporters on March 9, presenting the results of the survey which was carried out at the request of Shant TV.

“Only 12% of the respondents said the work of the Cabinet is negative. 31% said PM Karapetyan’s Cabinet’s work is definitely positive, while 46% percent said it is very positive”, Fyodorov said.

He stressed the Armenian public has a high level of awareness regarding the Government’s works. Only 6% of the respondents said they are not aware of anything about the Cabinet.

“People find the results of Karen Karapetyan’s Cabinet’s successful work to be supervision on inflation, correct HR policy, control on the overall situation, changes of tax policy, progress in the fight against corruption, reforms in highway/road transportation,” Fyodorov said.

Ahead of the Parliaemntary election, the population is mainly displeased with the situation in the country. 33% said the situation in Armenia almost doesn’t change, 13% said the situation is being improved more, 32% said it is definitely worsening, while 19% said it is worsening more.

“One can conclude that the population has more negative moods over the current situation. People also find the dynamics of change to be negative”, Fyodorov said. 20% of the respondents said regime change is a priority, 10% said the upcoming election is priority, and 6% percent said priority is the situation at the borders.

“The population of the republic is rather politicized. 71% of the respondents said they either always for from time to time follow the social-political situation of the country. This is a quite large number compared to other Post-Soviet states. Citizens mainly follow the political and economic developments of the country,” Fyodorov said.

45% of the respondents said unemployment is a serious issue facing Armenia. 22% found the road/highway condition in the country to be a serious problem. 14% said a serious issue is preservation of the environment, 13% – poverty, 8% – heating and electiricy issues, 8% – bad operation of public transportation, 7% – educational sector issues, 7% – low pensions, 5% – migration issues.

The survey was held in the entire territory of Armenia. 36% of the respondents live in Yerevan, 29% in other cities and 36% in villages. Overall 1600 people took part in the survey.
