Macron’s remarks are disgraceful; he is simply lying cynically

Hakob Badalyan writes: “Emmanuel Macron’s baseness.”

“Let’s be honest: eight years ago, no one would have come here. Eight years ago, this country was viewed at the negotiating table as a de facto satellite of Russia. The fact that today we are seeing so many first visits to your country speaks volumes,” French President Emmanuel Macron has stated.

First, one can only hope that the powerful country and people of France will soon—at the 2027 presidential election—bid farewell to Macron, who has become a source of shame, and under whose presidency France has turned more into an object of ridicule than respect.

Returning to Macron’s statement: eight years ago, Armenia hosted the Francophonie Summit, which Macron himself attended alongside numerous high-ranking officials of that organization. The decision to hold that summit had been made prior to 2018. In the summer of 2018, German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited Armenia, with arrangements for that visit also having been made before 2018.

Prior to 2018, Armenia was visited by numerous heads of state from a wide range of countries, including European nations. Before 2018, the U.S. Secretary of State and the U.S. Secretary of Defense also visited Armenia. A NATO exercise was held in the country, along with other international gatherings and events. Armenia was a full and active participant in international affairs.

The French president is simply cynically lying when he claims that no one came to Armenia because it was seen as a Russian satellite, and that visits are now taking place because it is considered independent. I will go on to explain why visits to Armenia have now become more frequent and more demonstrative—and why did they previously lack such eloquence and toast-driven enthusiasm?”
