A photo album containing candid photos of Adolf Hitler is due to go on sale on Wednesday. The album was found by a British photographer in the bedroom of Hitler’s mistress, Eva Braun in 1945, reports Reuters.
The photos show Hitler relaxing on a mountainside and out with his bodyguards. (Soundbite) Consultant at C&T Auctioneers, Tim Harper, saying (English): “The pictures are very personal.
They had to be taken by someone who had clearance to get close to the Fuehrer and close to that inner circle. We’ve got shots of the bodyguards and this is why one of the stories run at the time, claimed that this individual was a boyfriend of Eva Braun.” Photos of other leading Nazis like Heinrich Himmler also appear in the album. Images of Hitler were tightly controlled during his time as Germany’s leader… Which makes this album of candid photos such a rarity. (Soundbite) Consultant at C&T Auctioneers, Tim Harper, saying (English): “Hitler’s image, particularly his photographs, were controlled.
They had to be approved, a photographer called Hoffman kept that very much in his hands, so the shots you are seeing in this album are natural, relaxed, a number of them are amusing and almost certainly they would not have been allowed to be published. They are quite revealing.”
The album will appear at auction on March 15th. It’s estimated to sell for more than 15 thousands pounds.
