Turkey will pass on to more active operations: Sargis Grigoryan
Turkish air force hit Kurdish areas in Iraq’s Sinjar, northeast Syria. Turkey targeted PKK positions. According to Sargis Grigoryan, expert on Arabic studies, YSU professor, Turkey will pass on to more active operations against PKK not only in Syria, but in Iraq as well.
“They have repeatedly stated on it, only constitutional reforms needed to end, so that Turkey more actively acted against PKK. These strikes are its vivid evidence. Frankly speaking, I anticipated that land operations will be launched in Iraq, however, it isn’t excluded that these air strikes will be followed by land operations. I don’t mean the regular army, although Turkey in Iraq has a military base, however, some operations will be recorded with the participation of a special unit,” he told 168.am.
The expert said Sinjar has become an apple of discord between Kurdistan regional government in Iraq and Kurdistan Worker’s Party, and according to him Turkey was attentively following those developments. “These air strikes were recorded for the reason that PKK strengthened especially in Iraq. Fight against ISIS lead to the point that PKK became stronger in Iraq, and this air strike was its logical continuation. Turkey sees threat in Iraq in strengthening of PKK and it was expressed through these air strikes.”
As for relations of Turkey and global powers, he said at this stage Turkey won’t go to sharpening of relations, as it doesn’t come from Turkey’s interests, “Erdogan was unpredictable, however, it won’t go to larger operations. On the level of local activities Erdogan may allow such things, which won’t be agreed neither with Moscow, nor with Washington, in particular, in fight against PKK.”
S.Grigoryan also stated Trump intends to differ from Obama by showing that, firstly, he is Republican, then he’ll be sharper both in Syria and Iraq.
It should also be stated that according to Kurdish media outlets as a result of air operations in Sinjar 5 peshmergas have died and 7 got injuries.
