German FM says further dialogue with Turkey will be difficult

Germany’s Federal Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel commented on the German lawmakers’ decision to cancel the visit to Turkey, by blaming Turkey on imposing ‘entry ban’ against the lawmakers, Deutsche Welle reports.

During the visit to China, the German FM called the incident as a ‘serious development’, stating that the dialogue after that will not be easy. The visit of delegation of Bundestag lawmakers led by Bundestag’s Vice President Claudia Roth to Turkey was cancelled. The German delegation’s visit to Turkey was scheduled on May 25-28.

They planned to meet representatives of ruling and opposition parties, political figures, as well as NGO and media representatives in Turkey. “We were informed that the Turkish government doesn’t consider it appropriate to hold high-level political meetings with the German MPs. This is actually a refusal from political dialogue,” Claudia Roth said.
