Contractual soldier of the Defense Army of Artsakh Gor Hovhannisyan, 1993, receives a fatal injury on March 31 at 14:45 as a result of ceasefire violation by Azerbaijan in the eastern direction of contact line.
“The Azerbaijani military opened intense sniper fire in the south-eastern and eastern sections of the line of contact, firing 86 shots. The Defense Army of Artsakh took countermeasures to suppress the Azerbaijani aggression and confidently continued their service,” the Artsakh Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The President of the Republic of Armenia expressed the hope that the European Union would succesfully overcome all the problems faced by this stage and all the challenges, continuing its specific mission of spreading peace, stability and development, which would be beneficial for the people of Europe as well as for its partners.
“The Defense Ministry of the Republic of Artsakh shares the grief of the loss and extends condolences to the family members, relatives and co-servicemen of the killed soldier,” reads the statement of the Ministry
“On March 27 and overnight March 28 Azerbaijani forces violated the ceasefire regime 30 times, firing more than 400 shots at Artsakh positions from various caliber firearms, including sniper rifles.”
The steps aimed at moving forward the settlement process of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict were discussed, as well as they stressed the necessity to implement the decisions made at the Vienna and St. Petersburg summits.
The press service of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiatsin told the basis of the decision was the petition of Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia, and the conclusion of the Mother See’s disciplinary committee on willingly leaving the location of spiritual service.
“The Defense Army maintains full control in the frontline and carry on with their service normally,” the Artsakh Defense Ministry said in a statement.
