Arthur Khachikian, Stanford University PhD Graduate in Political Science, USA, discussed the agreement signed in Washington on August 8, and concerns about Armenia’s security with James W. Carden, editor and columnist at The American Conservative, former U.S. State Department adviser, and a senior advisor to the American Committee on the US-Russia Accord (ACURA)
“Peaceful relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan are a good thing, the role of the USA here is problematic, because the US is not part of the South Caucasus region,” in the interview with 168 Hours said Professor Jeffrey Sachs, renowned economist, professor, and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University’s Earth Institute.
“In order also to reach out to peace, we have to make a distinction between freedom of expression deprivation in a national framework or in an international framework, a national framework, it depends, always by the government. So it’s a decision what kind of behaviors or statements are denied and what not. So what we can do in this case is to create dialog with institutions and also create dialog between international organizations and governments, or between governments.”

Fame is usually not the goal for a true artist. You can be famous for many things today. But as an artist you would like for your art and craft to be recognized all over the world, yes! And have people use what you do to their own best ability and appreciate it as much as you do. The main obstacle I would say is timing. Everything has it’s time and place and I believe that I have a place at the top of the industry.
“But like with any open door, there is still the question of how many people will walk through and when. Since both sides showed a strong political will to come to this agreement, and since the benefits from the cooperation are very tangible, all those who wish Armenia well should make use of the new opportunities very actively.”
“I’m sure it’ll open wide perspectives for economic development. On March 3 I met Denis Manturov, Minister of Trade and Industry of Russia, in Moscow and we discussed issues on bilateral cooperation on agricultural equipment, radio-electronic industry, as well as on establishment of Russia-Armenia fund.”
