I’m one of those unique persons among you, who has lived three eras: Stalin’s era, post-Stalin era and the recent period, which we live in. Accordingly, I’ll give a philosophic answer to this question. There was a TV program recently about who Stalin was—“great politician or great betrayer?” Can you imagine, 85% of population voted for “great politician” and this is in case, when due to him and by his wish lives of 50 million people have been destroyed. I mean, in all periods there have been both bastards and sincere people.
It’s a very sad situation, that we lose lots of people, like we’ve lost years ago. I live in Diaspora, I see they come, and it’s rather disappointing, as Armenia is drained from its people. And we want not only to maintain our country, but we also want to maintain Artsakh and demand Western Armenia, but people are drained and our dreams take just the contrary direction.
Naturally, it’ll undergo reconstruction, it’s inevitable, as after Saroyan’s death, throughout 35 years, the house has had different owners, and currently, mildly said, it doesn’t have a representative look. Presently we’re working exactly on the concept, and what will be the final result after reconstruction, whether it be restored like it was in the period of 1960-70s, when Saroyan was living, or will have a final appearance close to it, are still under discussion. Many issues will be clarified soon.
The most ideal variant would be resolution of Syria’s destiny exactly in Syria and by Syrian citizens. As it’s resolved out of Syrian borders, that’s why it fails. Unfortunately, it turned out, that Syria’s future is in the hands of Er-Riad, Ankara, Qatar and others. Firstly, this is a big tragedy for Syrian people.
Membership of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) in itself is not an obstacle for Armenia’s cooperation with the EU. Let me recall that the EU and Armenia have completed a scoping exercise prior to the launching of negotiations to see how far our cooperation can go in this new context.
It is not news that Turkey states that Armenia needs to return the occupied territories to Azerbaijan. This is clear and is part of the Madrid Principles. Turkey wants a solution to Karabakh issue because the conflict not only represents a huge security threat for the region, but it also hobbles development and prosperity of the South Caucasus region. The question of Ankara, being part of the peace-negotiations, is not on the table, because it is clearly something that Armenia would not accept.
As American revolutionary Thomas Paine said, “The Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.” It’ll be an exaggeration, if I say in Armenia we deal with the worst case. We constantly complain how bad our government is, we are often upset why the government doesn’t do this or that.

Mazmanian, became one of 23 laureates, and was awarded USD 500.000, which he might use for any purpose.
Turkey has some fears with respect to Armenia. This refers Russia’s military bases deployed in Armenia; Turkey considers, Russia may make Armenia an outpost against Turkey or Azerbaijan, destabilizing the South Caucasus, which isn’t an issue not only for Turkey, but for the whole region.
