According to preliminary information, Defense Army soldiers Ruben M. Barseghyan (born in 1998), Rafayel A. Bisharyan (born in 1997) and Ruben H. Mnatsakanyan (born in 1998) drowned in a reservoir adjacent to the military unit as a result of a trafc accident.
Vigen Sargsyan also mentioned that any ceasere violation in the Karabakh-Azerbaijan line of contact is a breach of international commitments assumed by the sides. He stressed that any stepback from these commitments can lead to serious escalations.
He added that Armenia’s society pays great attention to the issue of Russia selling arms to Azerbaijan, especially when these very weapons are engaged in case of escalation, like it happened in April of 2016.
‘On May 6, 7 and overnight May 8 an escalation of tension was observed in the Artsakh-Azerbaijan line of contact. Azerbaijani forces made over 160 ceasefire violations, firing more than 2600 shots from different caliber firearms at Artsakh’s military.
“By refusing to enter Artsakh, those prominent international structures in fact support the stance of one of the conicting sides rather than maintain neutrality. We will try to change this situation. Azerbaijani forces also fired 11 mortar shells (60mm) in the eastern and northeastern sections of the line of contact. The defense ministry of Artsakh told the Defense Army took countermeasures to suppress the Azerbaijani aggression.
Azerbaijani forces breached the Artsakh ceasefire more than 45 times on May 4 and overnight May 5, firing more than 730 shots from various caliber firearms, the defense ministry of Artsakh told.
