The Armenian Olympic delegation participating in the 31st Summer Olympic Games has returned to Armenia. Doha-Yerevan flight landed in Yerevan’s Zvartnots airport at about 00:50. Armenian sport lovers welcomed Artur Aleksanyan, Mihran Harutyunyan, Simon Martirosyan, Gor Minasyan like real heroes.
Already one-time Guinness World Record holder Mamoyan dedicated his performance to the memories of fallen heroes of the 4 day war in Nagorno Karabakh. Mamoyan attempted to beat the results of Canadian Roy Berger, who holds the record for 84 knuckle pushups in one minute.
It was a wet, windy and wild farewell to the 2016 Olympic Games as Rio de Janeiro bowed out in a storm of samba and rain inside the Maracana Stadium, CNN reports.
“I am very proud to be able to win bronze medal for Germany. I have always dreamed of taking part in the Olympic Games. I am very satisfied and proud of my performances,” Artyom Harutyunyan said.
Team Armenia has won the first gold medal in Rio 2016. Armenia’s Greco Roman wrestler Arthur Alexanyan defeated Cuba’s Yasmany Lugo at the Greco-Roman 98 kg final.
Mihran Harutyunyan was defeated by Serbian Davor Stepanek at the men’s GrecoRoman 66kg final and won silver.
Seconds earlier, he had appeared a certainty for a medal – which would have been Armenia’s first of this Olympic Games – but his dreams were cruelly shattered in the most devastating circumstances.
Mkhitaryan’s mother worked for the Armenia Football Federation and his sister is employed by Uefa. – “We’re a football family,” he says – and they can be proud of the boy they raised. It is not just a football brain Mkhitaryan possesses, one that helped him claim a total of 55 goals and assists for Dortmund last season en route to being named the Bundesliga Player of the Year.
Mkhitaryan scored his first goal during a friendly match between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund. In the 59th minute of the match Mkhitaryan scored a goal after Blind’s assist. Manchester lost the match 1-3.
“I think everyone was waiting for this transfer. And I’m very happy that Armenia can be proud of me because it’s honor for me too to be the first Armenian player in England, so I’ll try to meet those expectations.”
