Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian says the peaceful settlement of the situation in the Police station was possible thanks to the Armenian leadership’s prudent, patient and balanced approach.
“I agree that dependency from Russia should be decreased, but it’s impossible to reduce that dependency without NK conflict settlement and finding proper variant in relations with neighboring countries. In fact, Armenia needs not Russia’s support but security guarantees, which all its neighboring countries may give, both Georgia and Iran, and Turkey and Azerbaijan. Without such guarantees the situation in the country will continue and will lead to more and more radicalization of the situation.”
The agreement on export of Iranian natural gas to Georgia has been concluded, Iranian bureau of Azerbaijani APA Agency reported. The signed agreement will be valid for 4 months. On the whole, 40 million cubic meters of gas will be transported to Georgia from Iran.
“They have turned into their caricature. Here I observe only to subjects, which are able to give solution to an issue—the authorities and the citizens. There is no any other subject in Armenia. Today everything will depend on how the civil society will be structuralized and what political agenda will be set forward.”
“Now about the criticism which has been voiced. I am not talking about the armed persons that were acting in a distinct terrorist style and were hiding their intentions under the slogan of patriotic and social justice. I am talking about concern which is present in some segments of our society. Yes, it is true that the Armenian authorities are not perfect. Yes, it is true that there are many problems and complex issues in Armenia. Our goal is to give them a speedy resolution.”
“I have really dedicated my entire conscious life to this issue. And I have always been ready to sacrifice not only any position, but also my life for achieving an acceptable option for my people. This was like this yesterday, and this is how it is today: and it will be the same tomorrow. I will underscore by summing up, as a state, we got out of this challenge even stronger. And we are more intended today to move our agenda of positive changes forwards even more accelerated. And we will talk more detailed about this soon”, the President said.
At the end of the siege of police headquarters in Yerevan, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović today sought reassurance from the foreign minister of Armenia that journalists’ rights and safety during times of civil unrest would be protected.
Armenian authorities took all possible measures to avoid human losses, President Sargsyan announced at a meeting with representatives of the society, leadership and clergy.
“Yerevan isn’t Beirut or Aleppo. Let no one attempt to import the solutions of the Cold War era of the previous century to Armenia from the Middle East. Let those who don’t understand this study the history of Lebanon’s civil war or the consequences of the ongoing Syrian civil war and make conclusions”.
“I would like to speak about another issue, which we have spoken about on many occasions. It is about the Karabakh issue and so called “surrender of lands.” My personal statements with regard to our clear-cut position on that are probably numberless. I repeat once again: there will be no unilateral concessions in the resolution of the NK issue. Never. Nagorno Karabakh will never be part of Azerbaijan.”
