Yet not having overcome implications of the April four-day war, Yerevan and Baku have to again involve in the arms race instigated by Moscow. Basically, the April war became another reason that the parties to the conflict started to get more intensively armed and currently that process is in its most active stage.
“If the Armenian side is discontent with the policy pursued by Moscow, first and foremost, it should observe its own policy,” Stepan Grigoryan, head of the Centre for Globalization and Regional Cooperation, told 168.am, reflecting to Armenia’s toolset of controlling Russia-Azerbaijan new arms deals.
Noting that last year the military service of our troops coincided with the period of time when in April they had to face the offensive of the adversary and defended Fatherland with honor, the President underscored that after decommissioning they still remain the soldiers of Fatherland regarless of where and in what area they continue their activities.
“Let me stress one noteworthy circumstance. After the April war Azerbaijan participated in preparation of agreements in Vienna and St. Petersburg, agreements, which are observed as installation of monitoring systems on the contact line and international observers. Of course, Baku didn’t sign those documents, which prevents application of these means, as international observation in Baku is perceived as interference with Baku’s internal affairs.”
There is no any guarantee that this year import volumes will be recovered and reach 2 billion m3. Of course, purpose of tariff reduction by “Gazprom Armenia” was consumption increase, however, Karen Karapetyan himself isn’t sure that gas supplier will reach that goal.
